Ironing Out a New Cancer Treatment

Emily Vandenabeele

Abstract

Humans have been searching for a definitive cure to cancer for hundreds of years; some date the earliest recorded attempt to treat a patient with cancer all the way back to ancient Egyptian times (American Cancer Society, 2018). Try as we might have, there has yet to have been a “cure” developed – cure, in this case, being defined as a surefire, permanent way to eradicate cancer within a patient. However, there has been some major breakthroughs on the treatment of cancer; the creation and expansion of such treatments have drastically improved the lifespan and quality of life of cancer patient (National Cancer Institute, 2020). While we may not yet have a cure, breakthroughs in cancer treatment are happening at this very moment.
