Hope for the Future: Oklahoma State Professor Researching Ways to Treat Cystic Fibrosis Patients

Abstract

Cystic Fibrosis is a chronic condition that affects more than 30,000 Americans alone, with an additional 10 million people who are carriers of the defective gene and do not even realize it. CF is a fatal condition that affects the lungs causing lung infections while making it harder to breathe over time, and it can currently be treated with aggressive drug treatments. At this time there is no cure for cystic fibrosis, or at least not yet. Professor Erika Lutter of the Oklahoma State University Microbiology and Molecular Genetics department hopes to change the future Cystic Fibrosis treatment.
