Biofilms and antibiotic resistant

Maria Anahi Vazquez-Sanchez

Abstract

Bacterial biofilms can cause infection in humans which can become very challenging to treat; these infections often are found in host with weakened immune systems and can lead to chronic infections. (Hoiby et al, 2010). There are treatment options that can be used in bacterial biofilm infections; however, treatments are limitedand might not always work (Frieri, Kumar & Boutin, 2016). There are several types of bacterial biofilms that cause human disease these are found in the human body and on medical deices. Biofilms are resistant to multiple antibiotics by using several mechanisms that will be explained in this chapter.
