Abstract

Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches ( Gromphadorhina) are ectotherms. Ectotherms use the outside environment to regulate their body temperature. Our group decided to test four different Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches and sustain them under three different temperatures to see what effect the temperatures had on the cockroaches. We hypothesize that higher temperatures will raise the CO2 levels. To conduct this experiment, the four Cockroaches were under different temps, 14°C,  26°C and room temperature (23℃) for control. Our results didn't support our hypothesis.Typically higher temperature would raise the insects metabolic rate than lower temperature. We didn't expect this, we were hoping that when the temperature rises so would the CO2 levels of the insect. our results showed otherwise. Our purpose was to show the effects of ambient temperature on metabolic rate of ectotherms ( Diehl et al. 2019).
