Can a Guppy Recognize a Guppy? Shape’s Effect on Sexual Selection

Abstract


This investigation was performed to test if male guppies could recognize the difference in shape of a female guppy in regards to attraction and sexual selection. There is a lack of studies on whether guppies are attracted to the actual guppy themselves or if shape is the more predominant characteristic. To test this we used an orange triangle shaped model and an orange female guppy model and placed each into the tank at a time to determine results.
