Mystery of Madagascar: Does Mass Affect Metabolic Rate in Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches?

Abstract


We tested the correlation between body mass and metabolic rate in Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. We believe that the larger organisms will have a higher metabolic rate because they will use more energy. We tested the CO₂ emission with three groups of cockroaches, based on their size. In the end, our hypothesis was supported, in that we found a positive correlation with larger mass and more CO₂ released.
