Determining how the Size of Super Worms (Zophobas morio) Affects their Metabolic Rate

Abstract

We chose Zophobas morio, more commonly known as Super worms to conduct our experiment as our model organism.  We wanted to test how mass affects metabolic rates within the different Zophobas morios displayed. Metabolic rate is the measure of how much energy an organism is using. To conduct this experiment, we measured the oxygen consumption through a gas sensor within a respiratory chamber.  In our results, we recognized that our hypothesis was supported due to the fact that as the mass of Super worms increased, the metabolic rate decreased. The results are important to the study because Bergmann’s rule is supported using ectotherms.
