Decomposers’ Effect on Organic Pollutants and Dissolved O2 in Pond Water

Abstract


Different water contains different amounts of dissolved oxygen (DO) therefore; the topic of discussion was to understand why some bodies of water contain more DO than others. It is proposed that the presence of organic pollution results in an increase of O2 consuming decomposers that lowers DO levels in the water. Three beakers of algae water were set up, two of them received yeast and one of the other two beakers also received powdered milk as organic pollutants. The third beaker was left untouched as a control. The impact of this research will show that organic pollutant being decomposed by a decomposer will reduce the amount of O2 within a body of water.
