Abstract

We conducted this experiment in the lab to identify if mass in mealworms affects metabolic rates in organisms. In the experiment, we selected 8 small and large-sized mealworms and set them in a respiration chamber for multiple trials. While in the respiration chamber we measured and calculated carbon dioxide levels. The idea was that the mealworms that had a smaller mass would have a higher metabolic rate, than the larger ones. Our data showed that mass does have an effect on metabolic rate. Based on the data we conducted, our hypothesis was supported because our data suggested that the smaller the mass, the higher the metabolic rate would be in mealworms.
