Thermal Metabolic Rate Change in Mice

Abstract


The metabolic rate is commonly associated with the ambient temperature and how hard an organism has to work for the thermoregulatory system. The question we are asking is how much does the metabolic rate change when a endothermic organism is placed outside of its thermal neutral zone. We covered out research question by conducting experiments with mice by measuring the amount of oxygen utilized when they were taken outside of their thermal neutral zone. The research question has been asked in correlation with the transportation of animals and how to do so efficiently and effectively. If animals are outside of their thermal neutral zone it could induce stress and require the animal intake increased food and water.
