Abstract

This experiment was conducted in order to investigate the potential of red LED lights to enhance the growth curve dynamics of the microalgae. Chlorella vulgaris was grown under two different light conditions with all other variables held constant over a seven-day growth period: a standard visible light source (Gro-light) and red LED lights. Under LED red lights, algae grew more rapidly than the algae grown under control light conditions as seen in the slope of linear regression lines. Moreover, the cell concentration of the experimental group exceeded that of the control group from day one onward. These results can impact future experiments as well as biodiesel production.
