The effect of eutrophication on the quality of water

Trent Caldwell, Levi Craig

Abstract

Our investigation was meant to look into the effects of eutrophication on the quality of water. Eutrophication is when nutrients are added to a body of water and cause adverse effects. Our goal in this investigation was to make the results very simple, so that the results are clear to everyone. Most investigations in the past have been more complicated and meant for scientific readers. We designed an experiment to measure the dissolved oxygen (DO) content in different samples of water with different amounts of phosphorous. In our data, which was displayed on a bar graph to show the final level of DO and a scatter plot to show the rate of each sample. The results we got were for a short period of time, so they are not 100% reliable. The results did show the impact that pollution has on water’s DO content.
