Gravid Spots: Fertility Billboards of Female Guppies

Abstract

Our experiment delves into the breeding biology of male guppies. Research has shown that male guppies have preferences in regards to mating due to factors like reproductive capabilities and survivability. Male guppies factor many characteristics into their conclusion on these capabilities. This experiment focuses on the reproductive indicator found on female guppies known as a gravid spot. We tested 3D gravid spot models with control models to understand the guppies’ preference when analyzing reproductive capabilities of potential mates.
