Investigation 14: Male Guppies’ Attraction Behavior in Relation to Size and Color of Female Guppies
Abstract
Guppies have been used in a variety of experiments to analyze and observe mating choices and behaviors. In our experiment we observed male guppies’ behavior when attracting a female mate. We identified characteristics such as: color and size of the female and behavior and reaction of the male guppies. The question we aimed to answer was: Why do some guppies attract more mates than others? We hypothesize that male guppies are more attracted to larger and more colorful female guppies, and will therefore show more mating behaviors and activity when a female guppy is either brightly colored or larger in size.
