Day N’ Nite: The Influence of Light on Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches (Gromphadorhina portentosa) Metabolic Rate

Abstract


Based on the idea that Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches (Gromphadorhina portentosa) become more active at night, we ran tests to explore the metabolic rate of G. Portentosa in ambient light and complete dark conditions (Flippin et al. 2015). In our experiment, our group ran two trials of light condition and two trials of the dark condition for three days. The G. Portentosa’s respiration rate and oxygen consumption could have significance in future studies.
