Algae Growth in Red, Blue, and Natural Light

Abstract


Algae are found in aquatic systems and they are major and important components of the first trophic level. Algae under light exposure will result in more growth because photosynthesis is able to occur most efficiently.  In this experiment we tested the amount of algae growth in blue light, red light, and natural light. We tested the amount of growth by implementing the same amount of fertilizer in Dolese park pond water and divided them by putting three tubes under red light, blue light, and natural light. The tubes were under the different lights for two weeks. Our hypothesis was proved to be incorrect. The results showed that the algae under the white light had greater dissolved oxygen levels than those placed under the red and blue lights.
