Mating Choice in Male Guppies
Abstract
Male guppies use sexual selection to select a proper mate. Mating choice is influenced by factors such as color, size, and overall health. In order to test how male guppies select a mate, we placed a single male guppy in a fish tank and introduced him to a blue colored model and a grey colored model. Our results showed the male guppy favored the blue model and exhibited more courtship behaviors on that side of the tank suggesting male guppies prefer brighter colored females.
