Male Guppies Do Not Discriminate Based on Shininess

Abstract

Since guppies serve as a model for other organisms mating behavior, we conducted an experiment to find out if male guppies have a preference between 3D female guppy models with true orange coloration and translucent orange coloration. In our experiment we used two models, and with each trial we rotated which side of the tank each model was located on. Our results showed that the guppies had no statistically significant preference to either model. Many factors including lack of movement, pheromones, and color patters could have affected our results.
