Gravid-y: A Force of Nature? Male Mate Preference Based on Gravid Spot.

Abstract

Our investigation focuses on the male guppy mate selection and whether or not the gravid spot, which indicates fertility, has an effect on preference. We predict the male guppy will exhibit more behavioral selection toward the yellow translucent with the gravid spot rather than the gray control model. After numerous tests, we concluded that while no specific preference was exhibited through the recordings of behaviors, more time was spent in the side of the tank with the Control model. With that being said, our hypothesis was unsupported.
