Bringing in the Heat: Hotter is Faster!
Abstract
The rate of diffusion through a membrane is directly proportional to temperature; as temperature increases, so does the rate of diffusion. Why does the rate of diffusion vary as it goes through a membrane? Nobody has adequately answered this research question, because previous work has yet to prove the correlation between temperature and the rate of diffusion. This experiment provides a well-supported hypothesis that shows the direct correlation between temperature and the rate of diffusion. This research will help others to understand all processes of diffusion, and apply the concept of the direct proportionality to the concepts of cellular respiration, enzyme activity, kidney function, and all other places where diffusion takes place.
