Abstract

In this study, we are testing the effects of various colors of light on the growth rate of algae. Determining the best light setting will allow us to better understand what conditions allow for optimal growth rate in algae to be used for biofuels. We put algae in experimental groups of red food dye, blue food dye, and green food dye, with a control group of natural light. We found that algae has the fastest rate of growth in natural lighting. This result is likely because algae is to absorb all wavelengths of light n natural lighting rather than only one spectrum.
