Metabolic Rates of Mus musculus (laboratory mouse) and Gromphadorhina pertentosa (Madagascar hissing cockroach) at Varying Temperatures

Abstract


This experiment compares the metabolic rates, by means of carbon dioxide output, of an endothermic organism and an ectothermic organism to help better understand how these organisms vary in the way they respond to the environment. To do so, we measured the carbon dioxide output of Mus musculus and Gromphadorhina pertentosa at three different ambient temperatures. We found that the species’ metabolic rates changed with temperature, but at different rates, with the Mus musculus’ rate of change being faster.
