It’s Always Greener on The Other Side: Algae Growth Using Urea and Sodium Phosphate Nutrients

Abstract

Nutrients like urea and sodium phosphate play an important role in algae growth. The experiment that was conducted was to test the algae growth with these nutrients at different levels. Figuring out what nutrient algae grows best in will help scientist figure out how to best produce algae for the use of biofuels. We have hypothesized that the algae growth rate will be the highest with both urea and sodium phosphate. We used photobioreactors containing algae and these nutrients over a three week period and the calculated cell density in each sample. At the end of the third week, our results supported our hypothesis.
