Measuring O2 Gas of Crickets at Various Temperatures

Abstract


Cellular respiration is a process that happens when an organism intakes oxygen gas and releases carbon dioxide as a result. If an organism is inhaling more oxygen it can be assumed that their metabolic rate is increasing. This lab tests the effect of temperature on the metabolic rate of crickets. In order to test this, we tested crickets’ oxygen gas level at both room temperature, 10 degrees Celsius, and 30 degrees Celsius. We found that the oxygen intake slightly increased in the warmer temperature and significantly decreased in the cooler temperature. The room temperature served as a control.
