The Suffocating Effects of Milk in Water

Ashlyn Steedman, Zackary Smith, Jeremy Kaplan

Abstract

Distribution of oxygen in water can be changed by nutrient loadings (Turner, R., Rabalias, N. 1994). We are going to do research to figure out what specifically causes these differences in oxygen levels. In the past, there has been evidence that shows that when phosphorus is present there is a decrease in oxygen levels. We are going to try to discover if organic pollutants have an effect on oxygen levels. For our research, we are going to test the effects of organic pollutants (in this experiment it will be milk) on oxygen levels in different water samples. We expect this new research to show what causes reduced oxygen levels in polluted waters.
