Metabolic Rates of Mice in Different Environments

Abstract

Temperature highly affects the activity of animals. The activity of animals can be measured by metabolic rate through observing carbon dioxide production. For mice, the metabolic rate increases as the temperature decreases, resulting in higher oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production. The comparison between the cold and room temperature environments allows the mice to be inside and outside of its thermal neutral zone. This showed the responses of the mice through metabolic rate changes from the temperature difference.
