Abstract

In class, we learned about the connection between sugar and ethanol. We began to wonder how different amounts of sugar would affect the ethanol production of yeast. Keeping this in mind, we designed a controlled experiment to measure the relationship between ethanol production and sugar amount. Our experiment was controlled because we controlled the amount of sugar that was going into each of the three containers with yeast. We hypothesized that there will be a positive correlation between sugar exposure and ethanol production, however, our predictions were not supported. We found that the most ethanol production came from our control trial which contained 0.8 grams of table sugar. We did find that we had human error.
