The Saturation Correlation: Dissolved Oxygen and Eutrophication

Nicholas Ballew, Hailey Bozeman

Abstract

Eutrophication is a problem that leads to decreased water quality.  We believe that the decreased water quality is due to decreased DO levels in the water. This is a result of eutrophication and algal bloom. To test our hypothesis we measured DO, population density and optical density of three samples of water for three weeks after introducing fertilizer to water samples to represent a nutrient influx. The key impact of our research revolves around eutrophication and how excess nutrients affect bodies of water.
