Abstract

Abstract: Guppies, or Poecilia reticulata, display various different mating signals. These signals range from small signs such as fin spreading to openly biting at the female fish. Many studies have been conducted concerning the guppies’ courtship routines and mating preferences. During this lab, we want to investigate what qualities may attract a male guppy as he is selecting a mate. We believe that the male guppies will be more attracted to females that are larger or more brightly colored, as this may have reproductive benefits.
