Hot Vs. Cold: The effects of Temperature on Ethanol Production in Yeast

Abstract

In this experiment, our lab group ran tests to determine if yeast will produce more ethanol in a hot or cold environment. We tested three trials in room temperature, cold temperature, and hot temperature. We had two experimental groups as well as a control group. The control group was the chamber filled with room temperature water. The two experimental groups were surrounded by ice and hot water for both the hot and cold temperatures. We hypothesized that more ethanol would be produced in the hot climate. Even though ethanol production was shown in our data to have dramatic changes with temperature, after running statistical analysis, results showed that each mean was not significantly different.
