Wormin’ Through Metabolism: The Effects of Temperature on Metabolic Rate

Abstract

Our main concern in this experiment involved whether temperature affects metabolic rate. We tested this question on worms. Our prediction was that heat would increase the rate of metabolism in worms. We tested both mealworms and superworms. Each group was subjected to a cold temperature, room temperature, and warm temperature chamber. We then measured how their metabolic rate changed. In the end, we found our hypothesis was partially supported. Both the cold temperature and warm temperature increased the metabolic rate, therefore, our hypothesis was both supported and not supported.
