Let it Grow: The Effect of Different Levels of Phosphorus on Algal Growth

Ashley Colwell, Natalie Carr, Sarah Copus, Jason Anderson, Kelsey Brass

Abstract

This experiment has been created to understand the effects that different levels of phosphorus have on algae growth. Learning this information can help explain and also prevent contaminated water and pollution caused by too much of a nutrient. Researchers are also studying the use of algae as biofuels to further better the environment.  In our experiment, we hypothesized that there will be a large difference in cell count when algae is exposed to different concentrations of sodium phosphate over a span of two weeks.
