The Effects of Temperature on Metabolic Rate and Behavioral Responses of Acheta Domestica

Abstract


While behavioral responses of crickets have been widely observed in the different stages of their life cycle the climate change response has been neglected. Crickets are equipped with a set of barb like antenna structures on their posterior that allow the insect to sense when a predator is approaching from behind with air circulation. This study observes the behavioral responses of adult crickets and how their escape behavior to a wind-elicited stimuli changes in different climates. There was an increase in movement of the crickets exposed to the warmer temperatures, while the crickets exposed to the colder temperatures movement decreased.
