Title: Gravid-ational Attraction: The presence of a female Poecilia reticulata gravid spot and its effect on male attraction.

Abstract

Abstract: In female Poecilia reticulata, gravid spots, or the melanisation of the ovarian sac, indicates mature females who have gone through a successful term of pregnancy (Norazomi-Lokman 2016). Our group believed that our 3D-printed gravid female would elicit an attractive display among various naïve male guppies due to the physical suggestion past reproductive success (Sill 2015). Our model simply had dark spots on either side of the dorsal fin areas where the ovarian sac should be located on an actual female (see Figure 1).
