Testing the Effects of Bright Orange on Male Guppy Mating Behaviors

Abstract


According to many studies, when in relation to sexual preference, guppies prefer partners of brighter colors. This led us to hypothesize that a male guppy will present more mating behaviors towards an orange guppy rather than a dull guppy. During this study, we subjected the male guppy to two 3-D printed “female” guppies. One colored bright orange, and one a dull, grey color. We determined that our hypothesis was supported, despite the few behaviors that were performed.
