How Colder Temperatures Decrease Cricket's Cellular Respiration

Abstract


    In order to conserve energy, Acheta Domesticus crickets decrease their cellular respiration. We examined this because we felt that it was important to see how animals react and can adapt to their surrounding environment. We were able to test this by measuring the oxygen levels of the crickets in sealed containers at different temperatures. We found that oxygen levels dropped at a quicker rate in the heat as opposed to a slower rate in the lower temperatures. The Crickets try to conserve energy in the colder temperatures due to a lack of chemical reactions.
