The Effect of Cold Temperature on the Metabolic Rate of Zophobas morio

Jessica Crabb, Dani Kirsch, Jordyn Downes, Nick Ford, Andy Frels

Three groups of Zophobas morio were subjected to two temperature treatments in order to test the hypothesis that there is a positive correlation between ambient temperature and metabolic rate in super worms. Using the weight of each trial group and a CO2 probe, we took measure of a respiration chamber’s CO2 increase in order to evaluate metabolic rate. The data did not support our hypothesis due to significant standard error caused by a large spread in our experimental data.
