The Effect of Various Temperatures on CO2 Production in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Abstract


Yeast is used industrially to make many different products for humans. Fermentation is the process yeast uses to create energy, which powers their growth. We tested how temperature affected the CO2 production, a product of fermentation, in yeast. We hypothesized that the CO2 production in yeast will be higher in warm temperature because of an increase in metabolism. The results showed that CO2 production was the highest in warm water. This means warm temperatures could be a potential factor for maximizing yeast growth.
